DeKalb County — United Way of DeKalb County is proud to announce Bob Krafft, CEO of the YMCA of DeKalb County, as the recipient of the 2025–2026 Barbara S. Oren Award, recognizing his unwavering commitment to serving others and creating lasting local change throughout DeKalb County.
Named in honor of Barbara S. Oren, one of the original founders of the United Fund in 1960, the Barbara S. Oren Award is presented annually to an individual who exemplifies the spirit of service, compassion, and community leadership that Barbara embodied. The award recognizes someone who leads with generosity, works tirelessly to help others, and is dedicated to strengthening the community for future generations.
For years, Krafft has been a driving force behind initiatives that improve the quality of life for children, families, and individuals throughout DeKalb County. As CEO of the YMCA of DeKalb County, he has championed efforts to expand access to high-quality early learning and childcare, helping address one of the community's most pressing needs. Under his leadership, the YMCA has pursued transformational expansion projects designed to nearly double childcare capacity and serve hundreds of additional children each day, creating greater opportunities for working families while strengthening the local workforce.
Beyond facility expansion, Krafft has consistently worked alongside community partners, businesses, educators, and nonprofit organizations to develop long-term solutions that improve outcomes for children and families. His collaborative leadership has made the YMCA a cornerstone in addressing
DeKalb County's childcare challenges and advancing opportunities for youth and working parents.
“Bob leads with humility, vision, and an unwavering commitment to our community," said Tyler Cleverly, Executive Director of United Way of DeKalb County. “He has never sought recognition for his work, yet his leadership has touched countless lives across DeKalb County. Whether expanding access to childcare, building partnerships, or advocating for families, Bob consistently puts people first. He truly embodies the values that the Barbara S. Oren Award represents."
Throughout his career, Krafft has demonstrated that meaningful change happens through collaboration. His partnership with United Way of DeKalb County has helped secure significant investments in early learning and childcare, strengthening opportunities for local children while supporting the economic vitality of the entire community.
“Bob's impact extends far beyond the walls of the YMCA," Cleverly added. “He brings people together around a shared vision, inspires others to serve, and continually reminds us that investing in children and families is investing in the future of DeKalb County."
