Community Impact on Income
As many as one-third of working Americans do not earn enough money to meet their basic needs. Wages have not kept pace with the rising cost of housing, healthcare, and education and currently, 40 million Americans are working in low-paying jobs without basic health and retirement benefits. For families walking a financial tightrope, unable to save for college, a home, or retirement, United Way is here to help.
The United Way of DeKalb County is focused on ensuring all families and individuals in our community achieve financial stability.
Your contribution has allowed us to provide funding to these United Way Partner Agency programs in 2015 that assited individuals in gaining self-sufficiency through training and employment opportunities.
- Alliance Industries provides employment for people with disabilities in a supportive environment. Currently, they employ 56 individuals that do light assembly and packaging work for local industries.
- RISE Inc. served 215 adults and adolescents with disabilities in 2015. Approximately 40% of the clients served are DeKalb County residents, with the majority of the remaining clients coming from Steuben. The goal of RISE is to increase self-sufficiency and independence in persons with disabilities so they are able to become an integral part of our community.
