Be Will-Prepared

Be Will-Prepared

Does your will accomplish everything you want? Is it up-to-date? Is it valid? Creating a personalized will, or updating one that is five years old or more, allows you to choose who will handle your affairs and benefit from your estate. When no will is available, the state stipulates guardians for minor children and how your assets are disbursed.

Creating or updating a will presents an opportunity for you to make a charitable gift that supports community and  charitable services that make our community such a great place to live. The park? A library? A charitable organization that serves vulnerable children? A gift in your will allows you to make a substantial gift that may not be possible in your lifetime. Garrett attorneys J. Daniel Brinkerhoff and J. Darrick Brinkerhoff, will speak at a presentation on creating a will Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The presentation will be held at the Judy A. Morrill Recreation Center, 1200 E. Houston Street, Garrett, Indiana.

The Brinkerhoffs will highlight the importance of preparing a will or estate plan, explain what a will needs to be valid, and what happens to your assets if you don’t have one.

The presentation, "Be Will-Prepared,” is jointly sponsored by Community Foundation DeKalb County, and United Way of DeKalb County.

“Be Will-Prepared” is a free event. Please call the community foundation at (260) 925-0311 or email SDeardorf@DeKalbFoundation.org to assure adequate materials and seating.
